Humanoid (Slate) / Construct
Ability Score Racial Traits: Slates are usually built with specialized purposes in mind, so their exact abilities can vary dramatically from Slate to Slate. A Slates ability score traits are determined by a Slates Design (Please see below).
Size: Slate are Medium* creatures and thus receive no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Base Speed: Slates have a base speed of 30* feet.
Bonus Hit-Points: Slates gain a one time bonus of 10 Hit-Points at first level.
Languages: Slate begin play speaking Basic and Numeral Code. Slate with high Intelligence scores can choose any languages they want (except secret languages). See the Linguistics skill page for more information about language options.
Constructed: For the purposes of effects targeting creatures by type (such as a ranger’s favored enemy and bane weapons), Slates count as both humanoids and constructs. Slates gain a +2 racial bonus on all saving throws against mind-affecting effects, paralysis, poison, and stun effects, are not subject to fatigue or exhaustion, and are immune to disease and sleep effects. Androids can never gain morale bonuses, and are immune to fear effects and all emotion-based effects. Slates cannot be raised, resurrected, reincarnated, or made into an undead.
Artificial Metabolism: Slates only receive half the normal hit points from magical healing, unless they affect constructs (such as make whole spell). Slates still gain full benefits from any source that would grant them fast healing.
Bio Plating: Slates gain a +1 natural armor bonus to their Armor Class due to their bio plating, although this natural armor does not stack with regular Armor bonuses. Slates can instead replace these starting bio plates with specially made sets of Armor (selected from the regular options of armor found on the Equipment page), which cannot be sundered or removed without special tools. Due to its integration with the Slate's body, the plating's maximum Dex bonus is increased by 1 and its armor check penalties are reduced by 1, however Arcane Spell Failure Chance still apply as normal. Plating is considered weightless for determining the Slate's encumbrance. Slates may wear normal armor over top of their Plating but only gains the benefits of one source. Slates characters can begin play with a specially made set of armor at the same price as a regular set, otherwise it costs twice the regular price (this increase reflects the price of the specially made armor as well as the price of having them installed onto the Slate).
Back-up Hardware: Slates who are brought below their Con Score in negative hit-points die like any other race, however a casting of a Greater Make Whole spell can revive a Slate who's body has not been completely destroyed. There is a 50% chance that the Slate is revived with no memories of its life before its death. The Greater Make Whole spell must be cast by someone of at least the same caster-level as the Slates character level or the chance of the Slates memory loss increases to 75% upon revival.
Low-Light Vision: Slate can see twice as far as humans in conditions of dim light.
Electronic Mindset: Slate have problems processing the emotions of organic life, and thus take a –4 penalty on Sense Motive checks and Bluff Checks to send secret messages.
Slate Design: Slates are always built with a purpose in mind, the following are just some of the more common Slates;
Ability Score Racial Traits: Construction Slates are strong and good at problem-solving, but like most Slates have a hard time relating to most other races. Construction Slates gain a +2 Strength, +2 Intelligence, and suffer a -2 Charisma.
Increased Size: Slates designed with construction in mind are built with a larger build than regular. Construction Slates gain a +1 bonus on combat maneuver checks and to CMD, but a –2 penalty on Stealth checks, and count as a size category larger for the purpose of lifting capacity. In addition, a Construction Slate can use weapons for the large size category by taking a -1 penalty on attack rolls instead of the regular -2 penalty. All other rules for inappropriately sized weapons still apply.
Constructive Mindset: Construction Slates gain a +2 racial bonus on all Knowledge (Engineering) skill checks.
Ability Score Racial Traits: Bodyguard Slates are reactive and sturdy, but like most Slates have a hard time relating to most other races. Bodyguard Slates gain a +2 Dexterity, +2 Constitution, and suffer a -2 Charisma.
Protective Actions: Some Slates are designed with the goal of protecting their masters in mind, such slates gain Combat Reflexes and Bodyguard as bonus feats.
Helpful by Design: Whenever a Bodyguard Slate successfully perform an aid another action, they grant their ally a +4 bonus instead of the normal +2.
Ability Score Racial Traits: Courier Slates are fast and clever at finding paths, but like most Slates have a hard time relating to most other races. Courier Slates gain a +2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence, and suffer a -2 Charisma.
Fast: Courier Slates gain an additional +10 bonus to their base speed.
Fleet-Footed: Some Slates are designed to move things between around cities quickly where vehicles can't reach. Courier Slates receive Run as a bonus feat and a +2 racial bonus on initiative checks.
Climb: Courier Slates are experts of moving about a city, even when there isn't a footpath available. Courier Slates have a climb speed of 20 feet and gain the +8 racial bonus on climb checks.
